Recommendation: alternative route between St. Jodok and the Brenner Pass.

By muenchen.venezia on 8. June 2025

The munich-venezia long-distance cycle route runs between St. Jodok and the Brenner Pass via the Brenner federal road, as unfortunately the gap here has not yet been closed. The federal road is very busy, especially at weekends, and there is also a steep climb from Gries am Brenner.

The Wipptal region offers everyone the possibility to take the S-Bahn (S3) on this stretch. The S3 runs hourly. Adjacent stations to the cycle path can be found in Matrei, Steinach and St. Jodok.

The region offers a special service for all guests staying in the Wipptal – they receive a guest card at their accommodation which allows them to use the S-Bahn free of charge. Bicycles can be taken along on all S-Bahn trains, the bicycle ticket for € 2,– has to be bought at the ticket machines at the stations.

The guest card is valid from one overnight stay as a ticket for all public transport in the Wipptal region – click for more information .
